Letter to friend

Dear Alexi,

I know that I've been really undecisive when it comes down to my major in college but I've finally found a career path that I may be good at! I want to become a psychologist!
I was sitting in my psychology class this past semester and was very intrigued by my professor's lectures and it made me want to do research on my own to find out more about psychology. That's when I found out the many job opportunities there are for psychologists. I can do clinical psychology which deals with a wide range of mental and physical health problems such as addiction, anxiety, depression, learning difficulties and relationship issues. I'm really interested in studying about the learning difficulties because, as you may know, my brother has dyslexia and it was very hard for him to deal with it as a child. It would be a blessing for me to be able to help a child work through a learning disorder because I know how hard and discouraging it may be. I can do clinical assessments to see why the person is struggling, ways to help them such as medication or different learning methods, and use that research to help someone else.
Marriage counseling is another area of psychology I am interested in. Divorce is on the rise especially in young couples and I would like to be the one to help people work out their differences. Most of the time couples are just lacking communication and their problems can be fixed. Other couples have problems that are beyond my help but I would still like to council them so they can have a chance of at least being civil with each other especially if there are kids involved.
So with all that being said I am so happy to have found something that I am passionate about and I am glad I found a way to help people. What about you? Any changes in your career path?

Sincerely,
Desiree Tillmon
